Kwado Energy traces its origins back to a student-led project at the University of Calgary in Canada in 2016, driven by a profound desire to empower refugees and restore their dignity in Sub-Saharan Africa. Initially conceptualized to address the 2017 Hult Prize “President Bill Clinton’s Challenge,” Our vision aimed to positively impact 10 million refugees in the region within five years.

Though we didn’t secure the sought-after seed fund, our unwavering commitment to catalyze economic change in Sub-Saharan Africa led to the formal establishment of Kwado Energy in February 2021. Built on a foundation of shared values and trust, our dynamic team comprises individuals of diverse nationalities and backgrounds, each contributing unique experiences and expertise. Through collaborative efforts with local partners, we confront challenges with resilience and determination, viewing them as opportunities for growth and innovation. Collaboration with local partners further strengthens Kwado Energy’s approach, insuring that solutions are contextually relevant and sustainable.

Our dedication to social entrepreneurship garnered international recognition when we competed in the Hult Prize International Social Enterprise competition at the United Nations in New York, securing the second position out of 50,000 teams from over 100 countries. This accolade reinforced our determination to leverage our collective expertise for the betterment of Sub- Saharan Africa. At Kwado Energy, our devotion to sustainable development and community empowerment drives us to expand our reach and forge strategic alliances with local partners. Having tested our products in several African countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Ghana, we have demonstrated the efficacy and viability of our bioethanol fuel solutions. These test projects have provided invaluable insights and feedback, further solidifying our resolve to positively impact Sub-Saharan Africa’s energy landscape.
